Manipur Authorities Caution Against Inflammatory Online Posts

The Manipur Police on Saturday issued a public advisory cautioning citizens against the circulation of unverified and provocative content on social media platforms, warning that such material has the potential to disturb peace and social harmony in the state.

In a post shared on social media, the police said that certain individuals and groups were allegedly involved in creating, uploading, and disseminating misleading content containing serious allegations without verification.

According to the advisory, these posts could have far-reaching consequences.

“Such posts contain serious allegations and have the potential to incite communal tension, disturb public order, and adversely affect social harmony,” the Manipur Police stated.

Authorities warned that the spread of misinformation could result in misunderstandings among communities and contribute to hostility and mistrust.

The police noted that the dissemination of false or inflammatory information may:

• Trigger communal tensions,
• Disturb public peace and order,
• Foster enmity between different communities,
• Create confusion and panic,
• Undermine efforts to maintain harmony.

Public Asked to Verify Information

Urging citizens to exercise caution, the police appealed to the public not to forward rumours or engage with unverified claims circulating online.

“Members of the public are strongly advised not to believe, share, or forward rumours or unverified content and to exercise caution while engaging with information circulating on social media,” the advisory said.

To assist residents in verifying suspicious information, the police requested that people confirm the authenticity of questionable content through the Central Control Room.
