CHANDIGARH: Punjab Police has intensified security preparations ahead of Independence Day on August 15, with Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav reviewing arrangements in sensitive areas across the state.

The DGP reviewed security preparedness in the Amritsar border range and later visited the Jalandhar range, Ludhiana and other districts. He instructed police officers to ensure visible and effective deployment, strengthen security at celebration venues and maintain vigilance at locations expected to witness large public gatherings. The objective is to ensure that citizens can celebrate Independence Day safely and with a sense of security.

Meanwhile, Amritsar Commissionerate Police reported the dismantling of two alleged cross-border drug and illegal arms supply networks. Police seized 10 pistols with live cartridges and a drone carrying more than 1 kilogram of heroin. Seven accused have reportedly been arrested in connection with the operations.

In a separate operation, Jalandhar Commissionerate Police, working jointly with SBS Nagar Police, said it had busted an alleged ISI-sponsored Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) terror module operated by foreign-based handlers. A key operative was arrested and a hand grenade was recovered from his possession.

The security reviews and the separate enforcement operations come ahead of the August 15 celebrations, with Punjab Police maintaining heightened vigilance across border areas, major cities and public gathering points.
