High-Profile CID Investigation Enters Crucial Phase

Trinamool Congress (TMC) national general secretary and Diamond Harbour MP Abhishek Banerjee reached the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) headquarters in Kolkata on Sunday for a second round of questioning in connection with the alleged forgery of signatures of MLAs relating to the appointment of the Leader of Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly.

According to CID officials, investigators were not fully satisfied with the responses provided by Banerjee during his earlier interrogation last week, prompting the agency to summon him again to clarify certain aspects of the case.

The alleged forgery case centres on claims that the signatures of several legislators were used improperly in documents linked to the process of appointing the Leader of Opposition in the state Assembly.

Investigators Seek Further Clarifications

Officials said the fresh questioning is aimed at obtaining additional details and addressing inconsistencies that may have emerged during the initial round of interrogation.

Banerjee had previously appeared before the CID following multiple summonses and directions issued by the court. He was questioned for several hours by senior officers as part of the ongoing investigation.

Sources within the agency indicated that the latest session would focus on specific documents, communications, and procedural aspects connected to the disputed resolution.

Kunal Ghosh Also Summoned

In a significant development, the CID has also summoned TMC MLA Kunal Ghosh for questioning on Sunday in relation to the same case.

According to an officer associated with the investigation, there is a possibility that Abhishek Banerjee and Kunal Ghosh could be made to sit face-to-face during interrogation if investigators believe it is necessary to reconcile differing statements or verify facts.

Such confrontational questioning is occasionally used by investigating agencies when multiple individuals provide varying versions of events relevant to an inquiry.
