West Bengal CID Intensifies Probe with Fresh Summons to Abhishek Banerjee
The West Bengal CID has issued a fresh summons to TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee for a second round of questioning in the alleged signature forgery case. Investigators reportedly remain unconvinced by several of his responses during an earlier interrogation conducted under the directions of the Calcutta High Court.
The West Bengal Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has issued a fresh summons to Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Abhishek Banerjee, directing him to appear before investigators on June 14 for a second round of questioning in connection with the alleged signature forgery case.
According to a senior officer, the decision to summon Banerjee again was taken after investigators were reportedly dissatisfied with several of the answers he provided during his appearance before the agency on Thursday.
Banerjee had appeared at the CID headquarters after previously skipping three summonses. His appearance came in compliance with directions issued by the Calcutta High Court, which had intervened in the matter and instructed him to cooperate with the investigation.

During the questioning, which lasted several hours, a team of senior CID officers reportedly sought clarification on issues related to a disputed resolution submitted to the West Bengal Assembly.
According to the investigating officer, Banerjee frequently responded with “I do not know” when questioned about aspects of the alleged forgery and the circumstances surrounding the disputed document. The officer further claimed that the TMC leader appeared to lose his temper during certain stages of the interrogation.
The allegations and the officer’s claims have not been independently verified, and Banerjee or the Trinamool Congress had not issued an immediate response to these specific assertions at the time of reporting.

The case centres on allegations that signatures on an Assembly-related resolution were forged, prompting the CID to launch an investigation into the authenticity of the document and identify those responsible for its preparation and submission.
The fresh summons is likely to intensify political attention surrounding the probe, given Banerjee’s prominent position within the Trinamool Congress and his role in West Bengal politics.
As the investigation progresses, the CID is expected to continue examining documentary evidence, witness statements, and the responses provided by those summoned in an effort to establish the facts surrounding the alleged forgery.
