Officials are examining whether all legal requirements governing the storage and sale of codeine-containing medicines were followed.

Why Codeine-Based Medicines Are Monitored

Codeine-based cough syrups are regulated pharmaceutical products because they contain narcotic ingredients that can be misused if sold or distributed without proper authorization.

Law enforcement and drug control agencies routinely monitor large consignments of such medicines to prevent diversion for illegal use.

The investigation is ongoing, and officials have not yet disclosed whether any arrests or legal proceedings have been initiated in connection with the seizure.
