Orange Alert for Uttarakhand, Chhattisgarh as IMD Warns of Heavy Rain
The India Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall over Uttarakhand and Chhattisgarh, while several states are expected to receive heavy rain. Thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds are also forecast across southern, northern and island regions.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall over Uttarakhand and Chhattisgarh today as monsoon activity remains strong across several parts of the country.
The weather agency has also forecast heavy rainfall over Haryana, Chandigarh, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh and parts of Northeast India.
Meanwhile, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds are expected over Jammu and Kashmir, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Mahe, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Lakshadweep and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
In Delhi, the IMD has forecast a generally cloudy sky with the possibility of light rainfall during the day. The maximum temperature is expected to remain around 33–35°C, while the minimum temperature is likely to be between 23–25°C.
The widespread weather warnings come as authorities and residents in vulnerable areas remain alert to possible waterlogging, strong winds, lightning and disruption to transport caused by intense monsoon activity.
