Assam Floods: Over 1.12 Lakh People Affected as Rivers Cross Danger Levels

GUWAHATI: The flood situation in Assam remained serious on Wednesday, with more than 1.12 lakh people affected across four districts, officials said. The situation could worsen as more rainfall has been forecast in several areas already affected by flooding.
According to an official of the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), several rivers are currently flowing above their danger levels, raising concerns that floodwaters could spread to additional areas.
The India Meteorological Department’s Guwahati centre has forecast moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning in parts of Charaideo, Dibrugarh, Jorhat, Sivasagar and Tinsukia districts.
With river levels remaining high and further rainfall expected, authorities are continuing to monitor vulnerable areas and the possibility of flooding in additional locations.
