Three persons have been arrested from Uttar Pradesh in connection with the killing of Chandranath Rath, police officials said on Monday.

According to investigators, the accused were detained on Sunday and later formally arrested by a Special Investigation Team constituted to probe the murder.

The killing took place on the night of May 6 in the Madhyamgram area of North 24 Parganas district.

The Special Investigation Team launched an extensive probe following the murder and tracked the suspects to Uttar Pradesh, where coordinated operations led to their apprehension.

Police officials have not yet disclosed the motive behind the killing, but investigators are examining all possible angles, including personal, political, and criminal links connected to the case.

The murder of Chandranath Rath had triggered significant political attention in West Bengal due to his association with Suvendu Adhikari.

Authorities said the accused are being questioned, and further investigation is underway to determine whether additional individuals were involved in the crime.
