West Bengal Arrests Bring Fresh Momentum to Delhi Professor Murder Case
A breakthrough has emerged in the murder investigation of Delhi University assistant professor Debosmita Paul, with police arresting a couple in West Bengal. The suspects are being brought to Delhi as investigators intensify efforts to uncover the circumstances surrounding the killing that shocked the academic community.
Delhi Police have arrested a couple in West Bengal in connection with the murder of Debosmita Paul, whose body was discovered inside her apartment in Delhi’s Vasundhara Enclave. The accused are being transported to the national capital for further questioning and investigation.
According to police officials, a PCR call was received at New Ashok Nagar Police Station at approximately 2:35 pm on June 4. The victim’s sister, Devarati Paul, informed authorities that her sister had been found dead inside her flat at Satyam Apartments. She reported that the apartment had been locked from the outside since the morning and that repeated attempts to contact the professor had gone unanswered.
Concerned by the unusual circumstances, Devarati Paul reportedly broke open the lock and discovered the body inside the residence. Police immediately dispatched a crime team to the scene, where forensic experts conducted a detailed examination. Investigators collected samples and seized evidence after documenting the scene through photography and videography.
Preliminary findings revealed that Debosmita Paul had been living alone in the apartment for the past four to five years and frequently relied on online delivery services for daily necessities. Investigators have since been reviewing CCTV footage from the apartment complex and surrounding areas to identify individuals who may have visited the flat in the days leading up to the crime.
Police sources indicated that the professor’s last known conversation was with her mother. Subsequent attempts by her sister to contact her were unsuccessful, as the phone remained switched off, prompting the visit that led to the discovery of the crime.
The body was taken to Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital for post-mortem examination. A case has been registered under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and multiple teams have been working on the investigation.
The arrest of the couple marks a significant development in the case, though police have not yet disclosed the motive or the exact nature of their alleged involvement. Further details are expected to emerge as the suspects are questioned in Delhi.
