Salt Lake Search Operation Sparks Protests Against Jayprakash Majumdar
Trinamool Congress vice-president Jayprakash Majumdar faced public anger on Friday when residents allegedly hurled eggs at him during a police-led search at a Salt Lake flat linked to a property dispute case. Majumdar was arrested earlier this week on charges related to illegal occupation and intimidation.
Arrested Jayprakash Majumdar was met with protests from local residents on Friday when police escorted him to a flat in Salt Lake, Kolkata, as part of an ongoing investigation into allegations of illegal occupation of the property.
According to officials, Majumdar was taken to the premises for a search operation connected to a case in which he has been accused of unlawfully occupying the flat and intimidating its owner.
As police arrived at the location with the arrested leader, a crowd of residents gathered outside the building and allegedly hurled eggs while raising slogans against him. Police personnel accompanying Majumdar formed a protective shield around him and swiftly escorted him into the flat to prevent any untoward incident.
Majumdar was arrested on Wednesday by the Bidhannagar North Police Station following a complaint filed by the property’s owner.
The complaint alleges that Majumdar had occupied the flat for several years and allegedly threatened the owner when asked either to vacate the premises or pay rent. Based on the complaint, police initiated an investigation that eventually led to his arrest.
The search conducted on Friday was part of the ongoing probe into the allegations. Investigators are reportedly examining documents and other materials related to the ownership and occupancy of the property.
The incident drew significant attention from local residents, many of whom expressed anger over the allegations against the senior political leader.
Police maintained security at the site throughout the operation and ensured that the search proceeded without further disruption.
Authorities have stated that the investigation remains ongoing and that all aspects of the complaint will be examined before further legal action is taken.
