West Bengal Announces Higher Financial Aid for Girl Students

Suvendu Adhikari on Friday announced that the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao scheme will be implemented in West Bengal, unveiling a series of initiatives aimed at encouraging girl-child education across different stages of learning.

The announcement was made during the Kanyaratna Diwas event in Kolkata, where several measures were outlined to provide greater financial support to girls pursuing education from the primary level through higher studies.

Under the West Bengal government’s Kanyaratna scheme, financial assistance for a girl child will be increased to Rs 2,000 from Rs 1,000 starting next year.

For students pursuing higher education after completing school, the one-time financial assistance will also be enhanced. The amount will increase to Rs 50,000 from the existing Rs 25,000.

Adhikari also announced changes linked to the Swami Vivekananda Merit-cum-Means Scholarship scheme. Students securing more than 60 per cent marks in their Higher Secondary examinations will be eligible to receive the scholarship, according to the announcement.

The initiatives are aimed at strengthening support for girls and encouraging them to continue their education beyond school. The enhanced financial assistance is expected to provide additional support to families and students pursuing higher education.

The announcements were made as part of the Kanyaratna Diwas programme, with the focus on promoting education and improving opportunities for girl students across West Bengal.
