Bengali film actor Swastika Mukherjee was questioned by police on Saturday in connection with a case registered over purported social media posts made after the declaration of the 2021 West Bengal Assembly election results, officials said.

According to police sources, Mukherjee was questioned for nearly an hour at the Gariahat Police Station in south Kolkata.

The complaint in the case was filed on May 21 by an advocate, who alleged that social media remarks made by Mukherjee and actor Parambrata Chattopadhyay following the 2021 election results contributed to an atmosphere that fuelled political violence in the state.

The controversy relates to posts allegedly shared after the All India Trinamool Congress secured victory in the 2021 Assembly elections. Authorities are examining the nature and context of the statements as part of the ongoing investigation.

The case has drawn attention within political and entertainment circles, reigniting debate around freedom of expression, accountability on social media, and the role of public figures during politically sensitive periods.
