Gopal Das Arrested by CBI in 2021 Bengal Post-Poll Violence Murder Case
The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested proclaimed offender Gopal Das in connection with a 2021 post-poll violence murder case in West Bengal. He had allegedly been absconding since the registration of the FIR and was later remanded to judicial custody by a Calcutta court.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested Gopal Das, a proclaimed offender allegedly involved in a 2021 post-poll violence murder case in West Bengal.
According to the agency, Das had been absconding since the registration of the FIR in 2021 and had neither joined the investigation nor appeared for the trial. The CBI had announced a cash reward of ₹50,000 for information leading to his arrest.
The agency said Das was eventually apprehended based on human intelligence and technical inputs. Following his arrest, he was produced before the competent court in Calcutta, which remanded him to judicial custody.
After completing its investigation, the CBI filed a charge sheet and supplementary charge sheets against 38 accused persons in 2021 and 2025 under various provisions of the IPC. The accused named in the case include Gopal Das, former TMC MLA Paresh Pal, and former TMC councillors Swapan Samaddar and Papiya Ghosh.
The case is currently under trial before the City Sessions Court in Calcutta. The arrest of Das marks a further development in the long-running investigation into the alleged post-poll violence.
