Police Crack Down on Viral Misinformation About Kedarnath Pilgrimage
Uttarakhand Police on Thursday registered three FIRs against unidentified persons for allegedly circulating “misleading and factless” videos and reels related to the ongoing Kedarnath Yatra.
Officials said the cases were filed at Sonprayag Police Station in Rudraprayag district after continuous monitoring of social media platforms.
According to an official release, the viral content falsely claimed that pilgrims were being sent back without darshan and made to wait in queues for up to 15 hours. The videos also alleged inadequate police deployment and chaotic arrangements at the shrine.
Police said action was taken to curb misinformation that could create panic among devotees and affect pilgrimage management. Authorities have urged the public not to share unverified content related to the yatra.
The Kedarnath Yatra is one of the most significant pilgrimages in the country and attracts thousands of devotees each year.
