DGCA Probes Delhi Airport Ground Collision Involving SpiceJet and Akasa Aircraft
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has launched an investigation into a ground collision involving a SpiceJet and an Akasa Air aircraft at Delhi Airport on April 16.
According to the DGCA, the incident occurred when a SpiceJet Boeing 737-700 aircraft, operating flight SG-124 from Leh to Delhi, was taxiing in its allocated parking bay at Terminal 1. During taxiing, its winglet struck the horizontal tail surface of an Akasa Air Boeing 737 aircraft that had been pushed back on the apron and was preparing to operate a Delhi–Hyderabad flight.
The collision caused damage to the right-hand winglet of the SpiceJet aircraft and the tail horizontal stabilizer of the Akasa aircraft. Authorities confirmed that further investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the incident.
In a related development, the Ministry of Civil Aviation said that the concerned air traffic control officer and the SpiceJet pilots involved in the incident have been taken off roster pending completion of the inquiry.
