Former Rajya Sabha MP Resigns From Key TMC Position

Santanu Sen has resigned from the post of national spokesperson of the All India Trinamool Congress, deepening signs of internal unrest within the party following recent political setbacks.

In his resignation letter addressed to party chief Mamata Banerjee, Sen stated that although he had publicly defended the party during several difficult and controversial situations, he could no longer continue in that role under the current circumstances.

The former Rajya Sabha MP wrote that despite disagreements over certain issues, he had continued to fight for the party in television debates and media discussions, earning appreciation from many ordinary citizens for his public defence of the organisation.

However, he said the prevailing political atmosphere and allegations surrounding corruption and controversial incidents had made it morally difficult for him to continue as spokesperson.

In the resignation letter, Sen specifically referred to issues such as the RG Kar case, the Abhaya case, and alleged cash-for-jobs corruption, claiming that the people of Bengal had rejected the party because of these controversies.

Taking what he described as the “verdict of the people” into account, Sen requested Mamata Banerjee to accept and honour his resignation from the position of All India spokesperson of the Trinamool Congress.

The resignation comes amid visible strains within the TMC, where several leaders have recently voiced dissatisfaction over organisational functioning, leadership decisions, and controversies affecting the party’s public image.

Political analysts believe the resignation could further intensify debates over accountability and internal discipline within the party ahead of future political battles in West Bengal.
