Security forces on Thursday intensified the ongoing anti-terror operation in the dense forest areas of Rajouri district by launching fresh fire assaults and multiple grenade launcher attacks targeting suspected militant hideouts.

The operation, which has now entered its sixth consecutive day, is being carried out jointly by the Indian Army and other security agencies in the region.

According to preliminary intelligence inputs, two to three Pakistani terrorists, including a senior commander, are believed to be hiding in the forested area. Security forces have intensified search and combing operations amid difficult terrain and dense vegetation.

Officials said multiple grenade launcher (MGL) rounds and sustained firing were directed toward suspected terrorist positions in an effort to neutralise the militants and prevent any possible escape.

The renewed offensive comes a day after Northern Army Commander Pratik Sharma visited the operation site to review the ongoing counter-terror measures and assess the security situation in the area.

Security agencies have increased surveillance and operational deployment in Rajouri and nearby regions following intelligence reports about the presence of infiltrating militants in the area.

The Rajouri-Poonch belt has witnessed several anti-terror operations in recent years due to militant movement through forest routes near the Line of Control. Authorities continue to maintain high alert in the region to prevent infiltration and militant activity.

Further details regarding casualties or recoveries during the latest phase of the operation are awaited.
