West Bengal to Honour Syama Prasad Mookerjee with Landmark Projects

West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Sunday announced a series of commemorative and development initiatives to honour Syama Prasad Mookerjee on the occasion of his 125th birth anniversary.

Addressing Bharatiya Janata Party workers during an organisational interaction programme in Dum Dum, the chief minister said the state cabinet had approved plans for the construction of a 125-foot-tall statue, a memorial, and a library dedicated to Mookerjee’s life and contributions.

According to Adhikari, land has already been acquired for the projects, which are intended to preserve and promote the legacy of the former educationist, parliamentarian, and nationalist leader. The proposed memorial complex is expected to serve as a centre for learning and public engagement, highlighting Mookerjee’s role in shaping India’s political and intellectual landscape.

Syama Prasad Mookerjee is remembered as the founder of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh, which later evolved into the Bharatiya Janata Party. He also served as a minister in independent India’s first cabinet and played a significant role in national politics during the early years after Independence.
