India has provided emergency pharmaceutical supplies to support containment efforts against the ongoing Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, according to the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention.

In a social media statement, Africa CDC confirmed that the medical consignment donated by the Government and people of India was received in Uganda by the organisation’s Eastern Africa Regional Coordinating Centre.

The shipment includes essential diagnostic kits, therapeutics, infection prevention and control materials, as well as case management support equipment. These supplies are expected to be deployed to communities affected by the Bundibugyo Ebola outbreak in eastern parts of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Africa CDC expressed gratitude to the Government of India for its continued support in strengthening public health preparedness and protecting lives across the African continent.

The emergency assistance comes amid growing international concern over the spread of the Bundibugyo strain of the Ebola virus, which has prompted intensified monitoring and response efforts by global and regional health agencies.

The World Health Organization recently declared Ebola outbreaks in Congo and Uganda a global public health emergency under International Health Regulations, urging countries to strengthen surveillance and preparedness systems.

Health experts note that rapid deployment of diagnostics, protective equipment, and treatment support is critical in controlling Ebola outbreaks, particularly in vulnerable regions with limited healthcare infrastructure.

India’s assistance reflects its broader humanitarian and global health cooperation efforts, especially in supporting developing nations during disease outbreaks and public health emergencies.
