Chandigarh Police Crack Down on Arms Trafficking Network

Chandigarh Police on Tuesday arrested three alleged operatives associated with the Donny Bal and Mohabbat Randhawa gang following an encounter during a police operation.

According to SP (Operations) Geetanjali Khandelwal, the arrested accused have been identified as Prabhjot, Jobanpreet, and Ajay. Police recovered sophisticated weapons from their possession during the operation.

Officials said preliminary investigation revealed that the trio were the main accused in the murder of Gopi Nijjar in Kapurthala. Police also stated that another accused, identified as Gopi alias Gaurav, who was allegedly involved in the Punjab University firing incident, is connected to the network.

Investigators suspect that the accused were actively involved in illegal weapons trafficking and gang-related criminal activities across the region.

During the encounter, an exchange of fire reportedly took place between the accused and police personnel. In the cross-firing, one police officer sustained a bullet injury.

Security forces later managed to overpower and arrest the suspects. Authorities have not yet disclosed details regarding the injured police personnel’s condition.

Police teams are continuing the investigation to trace other gang associates, weapon supply chains, and possible links to organised criminal operations in Punjab and Chandigarh.

Officials said the recovery of sophisticated firearms and the arrests mark a significant breakthrough in efforts to curb gang violence and illegal arms trafficking in the region.
