Jammu-Kashmir Rail Network Set for Expansion with Key Projects and Surveys
Rail connectivity in Jammu and Kashmir is set for a major expansion with Final Location Surveys sanctioned for key projects, including a proposed 190-km Jammu-Reasi-Poonch railway line. Additional railway infrastructure and Gati Shakti Cargo Terminals are also being developed across the region.
A major push to strengthen rail connectivity in Jammu and Kashmir is underway, with Final Location Surveys sanctioned for several important railway projects. Among the key proposals is a strategic new railway line connecting Jammu-Reasi with Poonch.
According to the latest information, a field survey for the proposed 190-kilometre Jammu-Reasi-Poonch railway line has already commenced as part of preparations for the Detailed Project Report (DPR). The project is expected to improve connectivity to areas along the strategic route and strengthen the region’s railway network.
A survey has also been sanctioned for a 78-kilometre additional railway line between Jammu and Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra. Meanwhile, the DPR for the proposed 216-kilometre third railway line between Jalandhar Cantt and Jammu Tawi has already been prepared.
Rail-linked freight infrastructure is also receiving attention. A Gati Shakti Cargo Terminal has been commissioned in Samba district, while approvals have been granted for similar terminals in Kathua, Anantnag and Jammu.
The combination of new railway lines, additional tracks and cargo terminals is expected to strengthen both passenger and freight connectivity across Jammu and Kashmir.
