Strong Earnings, Domestic Fundamentals Support FPI Buying in India

Foreign Portfolio Investors have remained net buyers of Indian equities in August, investing Rs 16,621 crore so far this month amid resilient domestic fundamentals, strong quarterly earnings and continued buying momentum.

Foreign Portfolio Investors (FPIs) have continued their buying activity in Indian equities during the first two weeks of August, investing Rs 16,621 crore in the domestic stock market so far this month, according to the latest depository data.

Of the total investment, Rs 11,199 crore came through purchases in the stock exchanges, while another Rs 5,422 crore was invested through the primary market.

The buying momentum that gained pace in July has continued into August, supported by resilient domestic fundamentals and strong quarterly earnings.

FPIs have also shown buying interest in the Indian debt market during the period under review.

Through the General Limit route, foreign portfolio investors have invested Rs 69 crore in debt securities so far in August.

Investment through the Fully Accessible Route (FAR) stood at Rs 972 crore during the same period.

The continued foreign investment in both equities and debt securities indicates sustained interest among overseas investors in Indian financial markets during the month.
