Police Probe Cross-Border Spy Network Linked to Highway Surveillance
Punjab Police has arrested a resident of Pathankot for allegedly spying for Pakistan-based handlers by installing an internet-connected CCTV camera along National Highway-44 to monitor the movement of Indian Army and paramilitary forces. Officials said the live footage was reportedly shared with handlers linked to Pakistan’s ISI.
Punjab Police has arrested a man from Pathankot on charges of allegedly spying for Pakistan-based handlers by installing an internet-linked CCTV camera on the National Highway 44 connecting Pathankot and Jammu.
According to Pathankot Senior Superintendent of Police Daljinder Singh Dhillon, preliminary investigation revealed that the accused, identified as Baljit Singh, had installed the CCTV camera near a bridge on the highway to allegedly monitor the movement of Indian Army and paramilitary forces. The live feed from the camera was reportedly shared with handlers associated with Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).
Police officials stated that efforts are underway to trace three additional suspects connected to the espionage network. One of the accused allegedly provided logistical support at the local level, while two others are reportedly operating from abroad and are believed to be in contact with foreign intelligence agencies.
The arrest comes shortly after Punjab Police had reportedly dismantled two ISI-backed espionage modules last month that allegedly used advanced solar-powered CCTV cameras to transmit live footage of sensitive military installations to handlers based in Pakistan.
Security agencies are continuing their investigation to determine the full extent of the espionage network and possible links to cross-border intelligence operations targeting military movements and strategic infrastructure in the region.
