New Delhi recorded the highest number of crimes against women among 19 major Indian cities in 2024, according to the latest report released by the National Crime Records Bureau.

The NCRB report stated that a total of 13,396 cases related to crimes against women were registered in Delhi during the year, highlighting continued concerns over women’s safety in the national capital.

Despite recording the highest number of cases, Delhi ranked fourth in terms of crime rate against women among the surveyed cities. The cities of Jaipur, Indore and Lucknow reported higher crime rates.

The NCRB calculated Delhi’s crime rate against women at 176.8 for 2024. The rate reflects the number of crimes reported per one lakh women population in the city.

Experts say the figures underline the need for stronger law enforcement measures, faster judicial processes, improved public safety infrastructure, and greater awareness initiatives to ensure women’s safety in urban areas.

The NCRB report is considered one of the most important official datasets for understanding crime trends across India and is often used by policymakers and law enforcement agencies to formulate safety and prevention strategies.
