Voter Deletion Protests Paralyze National Highways and City Hubs

Kolkata and its neighboring districts are witnessing a wave of spontaneous protests following the publication of the second supplementary voter list.

In the last 12 hours, reports have emerged of hundreds of residents being “disenfranchised” despite having valid documents. In Gaighata, nearly 183 out of 186 “under adjudication” voters were excluded, leading to a blockade of Jessore Road. Similar scenes played out on National Highway 12 in Malda, where villagers used burning tires to block traffic under the slogan “First Voter, Then Vote.” The situation remains tense as many residents claim they were unaware of the appeal process for the EC’s tribunals.
