TMC MP Rejects Claims of Joining Rebel Camp Amid Party Turmoil
Amid growing speculation over alleged dissent within the Trinamool Congress following a series of resignations, Lok Sabha MP Pratima Mondal has categorically denied being part of any rebel group, insisting that reports linking her to a purported letter sent to the Speaker are baseless.
Trinamool Congress (TMC) Lok Sabha MP Pratima Mondal on Thursday dismissed reports suggesting that she was among a group of parliamentarians attempting to distance themselves from the party amid an emerging political controversy.
The speculation surfaced in the backdrop of a series of resignations by TMC leaders, triggering rumours of internal unrest within the party. According to media reports, around 19 to 20 Members of Parliament had allegedly signed a letter addressed to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, signalling their discontent and seeking to chart an independent course.
However, Mondal firmly rejected any association with such a move. Clarifying her position, she stated that she had no knowledge of the alleged letter and had only learned about its existence through media reports.
“Regarding the 19-20 MPs you are talking about and the letter that was reportedly sent to Birla, I have no information about it. I am learning about it only through the media. If 19 or 20 people have signed it, my signature is not among them,” she said.
Her remarks come at a time when the Trinamool Congress is facing questions over possible internal divisions following recent resignations and political developments. By publicly distancing herself from the controversy, Mondal sought to dispel speculation about her loyalty to the party and denied claims that she was part of any coordinated rebellion.
The TMC leadership has not officially commented on the reported letter or the identities of the MPs allegedly involved. Meanwhile, Mondal’s statement is likely to intensify the debate over whether the reports reflect genuine dissatisfaction within the party or are merely products of political conjecture.
