Police Begin Preliminary Inquiry Into Complaint Against Abhishek Banerjee
A complaint has been lodged against Trinamool Congress leader and Diamond Harbour MP Abhishek Banerjee alleging that his social media post could potentially disturb communal harmony, prompting police to initiate a preliminary inquiry into the matter.
A complaint has been filed against Abhishek Banerjee, a senior leader of the All India Trinamool Congress, over a social media post that allegedly has the potential to disturb communal harmony.
According to police officials, the complaint was lodged at Bhowanipur Police Station by Arnab Kanti Das, who described the post made by Banerjee on May 2 as “highly irresponsible.”
A copy of the social media post was also submitted to the police as part of the complaint. Following the submission, authorities have reportedly initiated a preliminary inquiry to examine the contents of the post and assess the allegations raised.

Police officials stated that the matter is currently under initial review and further action will depend on the findings of the inquiry process.
The development comes amid heightened political tensions in West Bengal, where social media activity by political leaders frequently becomes the subject of political and legal scrutiny.
Abhishek Banerjee is one of the prominent faces of the TMC and serves as a key organisational leader within the party. No detailed public response from Banerjee or the party leadership regarding the complaint had emerged immediately.
