The Election Commission of India is set to oversee a crucial counting day across multiple regions, including Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Assam, West Bengal, and Puducherry.

📍 Kerala

In Kerala, where 883 candidates contested across 140 Assembly seats, counting will take place at 140 centres across 43 locations. Over 15,000 personnel—including returning officers, micro-observers, supervisors, and assistants—have been deployed, along with 25 companies of central forces to ensure tight security.

The contest is significant as the CPI(M)-led LDF seeks to retain power for a third consecutive term, while the Congress-led opposition aims to stage a comeback. A loss for the Left could mark the first time since the 1960s that it holds no power in any Indian state. Meanwhile, the BJP-led NDA is looking to expand its footprint despite limited past success.

📍 Tamil Nadu

In Tamil Nadu, elaborate arrangements have been made at 62 counting centres under a three-tier security system, according to Chief Electoral Officer Archana Patnaik.

  • Around 1.25 lakh personnel deployed
  • 234 counting halls for EVMs
  • 240 additional halls for postal ballots and ETPBs
  • 10,545 counting staff supported by 4,624 micro-observers
  • 234 counting observers appointed (one per constituency)

The political contest features the ruling DMK aiming for a second term, challenged by AIADMK and new entrants like Vijay’s TVK and Seeman’s NTK.

📍 Puducherry

In Puducherry, six counting centres have been established. The NDA alliance—comprising AINRC, BJP, AIADMK, and LJK—faces the INDIA bloc led by Congress, DMK, and VCK.

Across all regions, multi-layered security, strict monitoring, and large-scale deployment of personnel aim to ensure a transparent and smooth counting process. The results will shape the political landscape across key states and the Union Territory.
