Bengal Polls 2026: PM Modi Unveils ‘6 Guarantees’ in Haldia; Promises 7th Pay Commission and Crackdown on Corruption
Escalating the electoral battle in West Bengal, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday issued a set of “6 Guarantees” aimed at unseating the Trinamool Congress (TMC) government. Addressing a massive public rally in the industrial hub of Haldia, the Prime Minister combined populist economic promises with a stern warning to “syndicate elements,” asserting that the rule of law would be restored the moment a BJP government is sworn in.
In what is being seen as a direct appeal to the state’s massive base of government employees and pensioners, the Prime Minister’s sixth and final guarantee was the immediate implementation of the 7th Pay Commission in West Bengal. “The BJP government will ensure that our state employees receive their rightful dues, which have been denied to them for years under the current regime,” Modi stated, addressing a long-standing grievance that has frequently sparked protests in the state capital.
PM Modi’s ‘6 Guarantees’ for West Bengal:
Restoration of Safety: The BJP guarantees an end to the “atmosphere of fear” and promises to restore public faith in the judiciary and law enforcement.
Accountable Governance: A promise to establish a transparent administration that is directly answerable to the common citizen.
Reopening Criminal Cases: Every case of money laundering, corruption, and crimes against women—including incidents of sexual assault—will be reopened and fast-tracked for justice.
Zero Tolerance for Corruption: The PM vowed that “corrupt TMC leaders and their henchmen” will find their place in jail. “Whether it is a Minister or a local guard, the law will spare no one,” he warned.
Refugee Rights vs. Infiltrators: A guarantee that refugees will be granted full constitutional rights and privileges, while “infiltrators” will be identified and deported.
Economic Parity: Immediate implementation of the 7th Pay Commission recommendations for state employees.
The Prime Minister’s speech was heavily focused on the issue of law and order. Referring to recent reports of violence and financial scams, he assured the crowd that no “goon” protected by the TMC would escape the grip of the law. “The countdown for the syndicate culture has begun. We are not just promising a change in government; we are promising a change in the very soul of West Bengal’s administration” Modi remarked.
Context of the 2026 Assembly Elections
The Prime Minister’s visit comes just weeks before West Bengal heads to the polls in two major phases: Phase 1: April 23, 2026 Phase 2: April 29, 2026 Results: May 4, 2026
With the Model Code of Conduct already in force, the BJP has shifted its campaign into top gear, focusing on the industrial belt of East Midnapore and the urban clusters of South Bengal. The Prime Minister’s rally in Haldia is strategically timed as a counter-offensive to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s nomination filing in Bhawanipore yesterday, where she raised the issue of “mass voter deletions.”
By focusing on the 7th Pay Commission and women’s safety, the BJP is attempting to chip away at the TMC’s core vote banks—the urban middle class and female voters—while maintaining its traditional stance on the CAA and border security.
