Kolkata Water Supply Disruption; Talla Pumping Station Under Repair

KOLKATA: Large parts of North and Central Kolkata are facing a significant water crisis today due to an emergency repair at the Talla Pumping Station. The KMC has announced that water pressure will be “very low” or completely unavailable in wards spanning from Cossipore to Bowbazar. The repair work is targeting a major leak in the main 60-inch pipeline that supplies treated water to a quarter of the city’s population.

The KMC has deployed water tankers to the affected areas, but residents have complained of inadequate supply during the ongoing heatwave. Mayor Firhad Hakim stated that the repairs are expected to be completed by tonight, with normal supply likely to resume by Saturday morning. He urged citizens to use water judiciously and store enough for essential needs.
