The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Coal Mines and Steel is scheduled to meet at 11 am today at the Parliament Library Building to discuss India’s strategy for securing critical mineral resources from global markets.

The committee will hear oral evidence from representatives of the Ministry of Mines on the subject, “KABIL: India’s Quest for Global Critical Minerals.”

Officials from NITI Aayog will also present their views and provide evidence before the panel on the same subject.

The meeting is expected to focus on the activities and future roadmap of Khanij Bidesh India Limited, commonly known as KABIL, which was established to identify, acquire, and develop strategic mineral assets abroad for India’s long-term resource security.

Critical minerals such as lithium, cobalt, nickel, graphite, and rare earth elements are increasingly important for sectors including electric vehicles, renewable energy, advanced electronics, defence manufacturing, and battery production.

The committee is chaired by Anurag Singh Thakur, who will oversee the proceedings and discussions on India’s efforts to reduce dependence on imports and strengthen supply chains for critical minerals.

The deliberations come at a time when countries worldwide are intensifying efforts to secure access to strategic mineral resources amid growing demand driven by the global energy transition and emerging technologies.
