NITI Aayog Governing Council Charts Roadmap for Developed India
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday chaired the 11th Governing Council meeting of NITI Aayog in New Delhi, bringing together the Centre and states to deliberate on inclusive human development and chart a collaborative roadmap towards achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047.
The 11th Governing Council meeting of NITI Aayog commenced in New Delhi on Thursday under the chairmanship of Narendra Modi, with a focus on strengthening cooperative federalism and accelerating India’s journey towards becoming a developed nation by 2047.
The meeting is deliberating on the government’s approach towards inclusive human development, with the objective of achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047—the national aspiration of transforming India into a developed country by the centenary of its independence.
In a social media post, Prime Minister Modi said:
“Chairing the 11th meeting of the Governing Council of NITI Aayog.”
Emphasising the importance of collaboration between the Union and state governments, he added:
“Guided by the spirit of cooperative federalism, we are working together to accelerate India’s development journey. The collective efforts of the Centre and States will play a pivotal role in realising our shared vision of Viksit Bharat.”
Focus on Inclusive Development
The Governing Council, the apex body of NITI Aayog, comprises:
- Chief Ministers of all States,
- Lieutenant Governors of Union Territories,
- Several Union Ministers, and
- Senior policymakers from the Central Government.
The meeting provides a common platform for the Centre and states to discuss national priorities, policy reforms, and development strategies.
This year’s deliberations are centred on ensuring that economic progress translates into inclusive human development, with emphasis on improving outcomes in areas such as:
- Education,
- Healthcare,
- Skill development,
- Employment generation,
- Social welfare, and
- Sustainable growth.
Cooperative Federalism at the Core
The Prime Minister reiterated that the vision of Viksit Bharat can only be achieved through the principles of cooperative federalism, where states and the Centre work in partnership to address developmental challenges and share best practices.
The Governing Council meeting is expected to facilitate discussions on state-specific concerns while aligning them with broader national goals.
Roadmap to Viksit Bharat 2047
The concept of Viksit Bharat 2047 envisions an India that is:
- Economically strong,
- Socially inclusive,
- Technologically advanced,
- Environmentally sustainable, and
- Globally competitive.
As India moves towards the 100th year of independence, the Centre has been engaging with states to formulate long-term strategies aimed at improving quality of life and strengthening institutional capacities.
The outcomes of the meeting are expected to shape policy priorities and reinforce collaborative efforts between different tiers of government in the years ahead.
