Citizens Encouraged to Recommend Unsung Heroes for Padma Honours
The Ministry of Home Affairs has invited nominations and recommendations for the Padma Awards 2027, with the submission window remaining open until July 31. Citizens can nominate deserving individuals through the Rashtriya Puraskar Portal for one of India’s highest civilian honours.
The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has announced that nominations and recommendations for the Padma Awards 2027 will remain open until July 31, 2026. The nomination process, which commenced on March 15, is being conducted exclusively through the Rashtriya Puraskar Portal.
Citizens, institutions, and organizations are encouraged to recommend individuals who have made exceptional contributions in their respective fields. The government has consistently emphasized the importance of recognizing unsung heroes and grassroots achievers whose work has had a significant impact on society.
The Padma Awards are among India’s highest civilian honours and are presented annually in three categories: Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Shri. These awards recognize distinguished and exceptional achievements across diverse disciplines, including art, literature, education, science, medicine, social work, public affairs, sports, and industry.
The government has urged the public to actively participate in the nomination process and identify deserving candidates from all sections of society. Over the years, the awards have increasingly highlighted contributions made by individuals working at the grassroots level, bringing national attention to their efforts and accomplishments.
The selected awardees are traditionally announced on the eve of India’s Republic Day, and the honours are later conferred by the President of India at a ceremonial function held at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
