Rajdeep Majumder Named West Bengal Additional Advocate General
The Government of West Bengal has appointed senior advocate Rajdeep Majumder as the new additional advocate general of the state. The government has also named N G Khaitan as advocate on record for the original side of the Calcutta High Court.
The Government of West Bengal has appointed senior advocate Rajdeep Majumder as the state’s new additional advocate general, officials confirmed on Wednesday.
Majumder had previously been serving as the deputy solicitor general representing the central government before the Calcutta High Court.
In another key legal appointment, the state government has appointed N G Khaitan as the advocate on record for the original side of the Calcutta High Court.
The appointments are considered significant developments in the state’s legal administration and representation before the high court.
Officials noted that despite these appointments, the BJP government is yet to appoint the advocate general of the state, which remains one of the top legal positions representing the government in constitutional and legal matters.
The additional advocate general assists the advocate general in representing the state government in important legal proceedings and constitutional cases before the courts.
The advocate on record on the original side of the Calcutta High Court handles filings, appearances, and legal procedures in matters falling under the court’s original jurisdiction.
Legal observers believe the appointments may strengthen the state’s legal representation in ongoing and upcoming high-profile cases before the high court.
