West Texas Hospital Drama to Join ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Franchise
Grey’s Anatomy is expanding with a new spinoff series being developed by ABC. The upcoming drama, created by Shonda Rhimes and Meg Marinis, will be set in a rural medical centre in West Texas and focus on healthcare challenges in remote regions.
ABC is developing a new spinoff of the long-running medical drama Grey’s Anatomy, with the upcoming story set in rural Texas.
According to reports, the yet-to-be-titled series is being co-created and executive produced by Shonda Rhimes, the original creator of “Grey’s Anatomy,” along with Meg Marinis, who has served as the showrunner of the flagship series since Season 20 in 2024.
The new drama has been described as an edgy medical series centred on a team working at a rural medical centre in West Texas, portrayed as “the last chance for care before miles of nowhere.”

The storyline is expected to explore the challenges of delivering emergency and long-term healthcare services in isolated communities while blending emotional storytelling, medical crises, and interpersonal drama — elements that helped make “Grey’s Anatomy” one of television’s most successful franchises.
Ellen Pompeo, who stars as Meredith Grey in the original series, will also serve as an executive producer on the new project alongside veteran producer Betsy Beers.

The spinoff will be produced by 20th Television in collaboration with Shondaland, continuing the long-standing partnership behind several hit television dramas.
“Grey’s Anatomy,” which first premiered in 2005, remains one of the most enduring and influential medical dramas in television history and has already spawned successful spinoffs such as “Private Practice” and “Station 19.”
The announcement signals ABC’s continued investment in expanding the Grey’s Anatomy universe through new stories and settings connected to the medical drama genre.
