National Internet Exchange of India (NIXI) is strengthening its cybersecurity and digital trust infrastructure as internet usage and domain registrations continue to expand rapidly across the country.

Speaking about cybersecurity infrastructure, NIXI CEO Devesh Tyagi said trust has become a critical requirement as more citizens and organisations move online.

e noted that internet penetration is expanding rapidly across cities and regions, making cybersecurity and verification systems essential to ensure safe digital participation.

According to Tyagi, NIXI has introduced two key initiatives to improve trust and accountability in domain allocation and internet infrastructure management.

The first initiative involves providing API-based access whenever a domain is allocated. This ensures that domain names registered through NIXI are globally accessible and can be routed from anywhere in the world.

The second initiative focuses on stricter identity verification for individuals and companies applying for domain names. Tyagi said NIXI is now validating registrants to improve traceability and reduce misuse of internet domains for fraudulent activities.

He revealed that the organisation currently allocates more than 3,000 domain names per day, making the verification process a significant operational challenge.

To address this, NIXI has implemented AI-based tools capable of identifying and validating registrant details such as addresses, phone numbers, and other identification data.

The system is intended to help authorities trace individuals or companies in cases involving cyber fraud, misuse, or suspicious online activity.

The measures come amid growing concerns globally over cybersecurity threats, online fraud, fake websites, and digital identity misuse as internet adoption accelerates.
