Firefighters Bring Alipore Government Office Blaze Under Control
A massive fire engulfed a multi-storey government building in Kolkata’s Alipore area on Wednesday morning, triggering a large-scale firefighting operation. One person trapped on the top floor was rescued safely as firefighters battled the blaze.
A major fire broke out at an eight-storey government building in Kolkata on Wednesday morning, prompting an extensive rescue and firefighting operation in the city’s Alipore area.
According to fire department officials, the blaze erupted at the building housing the South 24 Parganas District Administrative Office at around 9:50 am.
One person who became trapped on the top floor of the structure was successfully rescued by firefighters during the operation. Officials said the timely intervention of emergency personnel prevented the situation from becoming more serious.
A total of 10 fire tenders were pressed into service to combat the flames. Firefighters worked continuously to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to other parts of the building and nearby structures.
While the fire was largely brought under control, officials stated that a few pockets of flames continued to smoulder, and cooling operations were underway to ensure the complete extinguishing of the fire.
No fatalities have been reported so far, and authorities have not yet confirmed the number of people who were inside the building when the fire broke out.
The cause of the blaze remains unknown at this stage. Fire department officials indicated that an investigation would be conducted after the operation concludes to determine how the fire started and assess the extent of the damage caused to the government premises.
The incident led to heightened activity in the area, with emergency teams coordinating rescue efforts and ensuring public safety. Administrative officials are also expected to evaluate the impact of the fire on records, infrastructure, and government functioning at the district office.
