FIR Registered After CBSE Reports Sophisticated Online Attacks
Delhi Police has launched an investigation into a series of alleged coordinated cyberattacks targeting the CBSE’s post-result services portal. The attacks reportedly occurred after the portal was opened for verification and re-evaluation requests from Class 12 students.
Delhi Police has registered a First Information Report (FIR) and initiated an investigation into a series of alleged cyberattacks targeting the post-result services portal of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).
According to officials, the case has been registered under Sections 66 and 43(f) of the Information Technology Act following a formal complaint submitted by the CBSE to the Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operations Unit (IFSO) of Delhi Police.
The board reported that the portal, which was launched on June 2 for students seeking verification and re-evaluation of Class 12 answer sheets, was subjected to a series of coordinated and sophisticated cyberattacks.
The development comes amid ongoing concerns regarding the CBSE’s post-result processes. The portal was introduced following complaints from students about glitches and discrepancies related to the On-Screen Marking (OSM) system used during the evaluation process.
CBSE had earlier disclosed that malicious actors attempted to disrupt services through denial-of-service (DoS) attacks and other unauthorized access attempts. The board stated that its technical teams and cybersecurity experts worked to contain vulnerabilities and maintain platform availability for students.
Officials said the investigation will focus on identifying the source of the attacks, determining whether the incidents were part of a coordinated effort, and assessing the extent of any attempted unauthorized access to systems or data.
The case highlights the growing cybersecurity challenges faced by public institutions that manage large-scale digital services, particularly during periods of high user activity such as examination results and re-evaluation processes.
CBSE has maintained that student data remains protected and that the portal continues to function with enhanced security measures. The board has also engaged cybersecurity specialists and government agencies to strengthen its digital infrastructure.
Authorities are expected to analyze technical evidence, server logs, and network activity as part of the ongoing probe.
