A court in Ballia has sentenced a Bangladeshi national to three years of imprisonment for using a forged Indian passport and illegally registering land, police officials said on Tuesday.

Special Judge Ramkripal convicted Abdul Amin on Monday and also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000, Superintendent of Police Omvir Singh confirmed.

According to prosecution officials, the case was registered on March 14, 2023, at the Kotwali Police Station following a written complaint filed by Inspector Bharat Bhushan Tiwari of the Anti-Terrorism Squad unit in Varanasi.

Investigators alleged that Amin, who reportedly came from a Rohingya camp in Cox’s Bazar, had travelled using forged Indian identity documents and had also illegally registered land in his name.

The ATS investigation reportedly uncovered fake documentation linked to the accused, leading to prosecution under relevant legal provisions.
