Nagaland Imports Meat Worth ₹263 Crore Amid Supply Shortfall
Nagaland is able to meet only around 44.5 per cent of its demand for animal-based food products, forcing the state to import meat worth more than ₹263.56 crore, a senior official said on Friday.
Speaking at the state-level World Veterinary Day programme in Kohima, Chusi said the shortfall presents both a challenge and an opportunity for the veterinary sector to strengthen the rural economy.

He noted that the gap in domestic production highlights the need to expand livestock development, veterinary services, and local food production systems.
The official also said per capita availability of key animal-based food items in the state remains below recommended levels.
The remarks underline the potential for investment in animal husbandry and allied sectors to reduce dependence on imports and improve rural livelihoods in Nagaland.
