Foreign Investors Turn Net Sellers in Indian Markets
Foreign Portfolio Investors have offloaded Indian equities worth ₹43,967 crore so far in April, reflecting cautious sentiment in domestic markets.
The month’s flow pattern showed a sharp reversal, with FPIs remaining net buyers during the first three trading sessions before turning sellers in the latter half of the week.
On Friday, FPIs recorded a net equity outflow of around ₹2,470 crore, marking the steepest single-session sell-off of the week.
This followed Thursday’s net equity outflow of about ₹1,250 crore, which pushed the week’s overall market tone into negative territory.
According to depository data, FPIs have also withdrawn ₹7,972 crore from Indian debt markets.
Overall, the total net outflow from India’s capital markets stood at ₹56,940 crore during the period under review.
Analysts say global uncertainty, profit-booking, and changing risk appetite may be influencing foreign investor behaviour.
