India-US Partnership Celebrated Through Memorial Ride Across Kolkata
The US Consulate in Kolkata organized the inaugural ‘Joy-Freedom Ride’ motorcycle rally under the Freedom 250 campaign, celebrating decades of India-US security cooperation and paying tribute to the Kolkata Police personnel who lost their lives in the 2002 terrorist attack on the American Center.
The United States Consulate General Kolkata on Sunday organized the first-ever ‘Joy-Freedom Ride’ motorcycle rally as part of the Freedom 250 campaign, highlighting the enduring security partnership between India and the United States.
The event also served as a tribute to the five Kolkata Police personnel who were killed in the American Center Attack on the American Center in Kolkata in 2002.
The rally was flagged off by Kathy Giles-Diaz and West Bengal Cabinet Minister Dilip Ghosh. Following the ride, participants attended a wreath-laying ceremony at the American Center to honour the memory of the fallen police personnel.
More than 250 riders took part in the early morning event, including American diplomats, Indian police officers, motorcycle enthusiasts, and representatives from the business community. The rally traversed several iconic Kolkata landmarks, showcasing the city’s heritage while symbolizing cooperation and friendship between the two nations.
The route included prominent locations such as Victoria Memorial, Prinsep Ghat, and Lalbazar, underscoring the city’s historical and civic significance.
Organizers said the Freedom 250 campaign aims to celebrate shared values, strengthen people-to-people ties, and acknowledge the longstanding cooperation between India and the United States in areas including security, law enforcement, and public service.
The event combined remembrance, diplomacy, and community participation, reflecting the continued commitment of both countries to deepen bilateral relations while honouring those who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.
