Major Drug Haul Recovered Off Jakhau Port in Kutch
Contraband Worth Lakhs Seized During Joint Coastal Patrol Operation
Kutch-West Police on Wednesday recovered 20 packets of charas from an island near Jakhau port in Kutch district during a joint coastal surveillance operation.
According to officials, the seizure was made near Saiyad Suleman Pir island during continuous patrolling carried out jointly by the Special Operations Group (SOG) and the Jakhau Marine Police.
Police said each packet contained one kilogram of charas, taking the total recovered quantity to 20 kilograms. Officials estimated that the seized contraband could fetch nearly ₹2.5 lakh per kilogram in the international illegal drug market.
Authorities suspect the narcotics may have been smuggled through coastal routes, and further investigation is underway to identify those involved in the trafficking network. Security agencies have intensified monitoring along the Gujarat coastline in recent years due to repeated attempts to transport narcotics and other contraband through maritime channels.
Officials said forensic examination and further intelligence analysis are being conducted to trace the origin and intended destination of the seized drugs.
