Investigators Examine CCTV Trail After Fatal Attack on Rath
Police have formed multiple teams and are examining CCTV footage to identify the attackers involved in the murder of Chandranath Rath in North 24 Parganas.
West Bengal Police on Thursday intensified its investigation into the killing of Chandranath Rath, the executive assistant to BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari, who was shot dead in North 24 Parganas district on Wednesday night.
A senior police officer said multiple investigation teams have been formed and officials are carefully examining CCTV footage from surrounding areas to trace the assailants involved in the attack.
Investigators are also exploring the possibility that contract killers may have been hired to carry out the murder, given the manner in which the attack was executed.
A forensic team visited the crime scene on Thursday morning and collected samples and other evidence to assist the investigation. Officers from the Criminal Investigation Department were also present at the location as part of the ongoing probe
Rath was attacked in Madhyamgram when unidentified assailants intercepted his vehicle and opened fire late Wednesday night, triggering political tension and outrage across the state.
Police officials are analysing the sequence of events, vehicle movement patterns and forensic evidence to identify those responsible and determine the motive behind the killing.
The incident has sparked a sharp political confrontation between the Bharatiya Janata Party and the All India Trinamool Congress, with both sides accusing each other over the deteriorating law-and-order situation in the state.
