Captain Gurtej Singh Bhatti scores four goals as India bounce back after early losses

India secured a dominant 8–1 victory over Macau in the Under-18 Asia Cup ice hockey tournament in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, marking their first win of the competition.

After back-to-back defeats against Indonesia and Uzbekistan, the young Indian team delivered a strong comeback performance, showcasing improved coordination, attacking strength, and composure on the ice.

Captain Gurtej Singh Bhatti led from the front with an outstanding four-goal haul, emerging as one of the tournament’s top scorers. The remaining goals were scored by Devansh, Ajay Dangi, Tashi, and Iftiqar Hussain, reflecting a well-rounded team effort.

India had earlier begun their campaign with a competitive 6–9 loss to Indonesia, followed by a heavy 1–15 defeat against Uzbekistan. Despite slim chances of reaching the semi-finals after the setback, the emphatic win over Macau marks a significant boost for the team’s confidence and development.

The result is seen as a positive step forward for Indian ice hockey, highlighting the growing potential of the sport in the country.
