Severe weather conditions, including heavy rain and cyclonic winds, have caused extensive damage to banana plantations in Shoolagiri village of Krishnagiri, particularly affecting farms in Melumalai village.

A local farmer, Anbarasan, who is differently-abled, reported devastating losses after months of effort were wiped out overnight. “For eight months, we carefully nurtured the banana crop, and it was all destroyed overnight,” he said.

According to Anbarasan, he had invested approximately ₹2 lakh per acre, spending a total of ₹3.8 lakh for two acres. Out of 1,800 banana saplings, nearly 1,200 have been completely destroyed due to the extreme weather.

The incident highlights the vulnerability of farmers to sudden climatic events and raises concerns about crop protection, compensation, and support mechanisms for those affected by natural disasters.

Authorities are expected to assess the damage and consider relief measures for impacted farmers in the region.
