Police Demolish Illegal Building Linked to Organised Crime in Maharashtra

Navi Mumbai Police have initiated demolition proceedings against the residence of Shantabai Karandikar, a 58-year-old woman accused in a drug trafficking case.

Police said she was arrested in November last year after narcotics worth lakhs of rupees were seized. A case was registered under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA).

Rahul Dhas said authorities had seized MD drugs worth ₹75 lakh during the operation and later arrested all accused persons linked to the case.

He added that properties allegedly created through organised crime in Navi Mumbai were identified and attached by the government during the investigation. One such plot reportedly had an illegally constructed building from which rent was being collected.

Following a detailed probe, police launched the demolition drive with security protection in place.
