TMC Says Heavy Voting Reflects Support for Mamata Banerjee, Not Change
All India Trinamool Congress on Thursday rejected Narendra Modi’s claim that the high voter turnout in the first phase of the West Bengal Assembly elections reflected an overwhelming mandate for change.
Responding to the Prime Minister’s remarks, TMC spokesperson Kunal Ghosh said the strong polling percentage instead showed widespread support for Mamata Banerjee and her government’s development agenda.
Addressing a press conference, Ghosh alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party was misreading the large voter turnout. He claimed that the people of Bengal had rejected the BJP in the very first phase and that the trend pointed toward a fourth consecutive term for the Mamata Banerjee-led government.
He cited polling figures of around 90 per cent till 5 PM to support the party’s assertion.
The exchange highlights the intensifying political battle between the TMC and BJP as the Assembly elections progress in West Bengal.
