Chief Electoral Officer Issues Strict Directive Ahead of Voting
The West Bengal Chief Electoral Officer has issued fresh directives for implementation of the Representation of the People Act, 1951 ahead of polling.
According to the order, all political functionaries, party workers, and supporters who are not electors of the concerned constituency and who have been brought in from outside must leave the constituency immediately after the close of the campaign period, which begins 48 hours before the scheduled end of polling.
The directive is aimed at ensuring a free and fair election environment during the mandatory silence period.
The Chief Electoral Officer also warned that any laxity, misconduct, partisanship, or failure by officials would be viewed seriously and invite strict legal action depending on the gravity of the lapse.
