NIA Arrests Shabbir Ahmed Shah in 1996 Policemen Attack Case

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested Jammu and Kashmir separatist leader Shabbir Ahmed Shah in connection with a 30-year-old case related to attacks on policemen in 1996.

Officials said Shah was taken into custody by the NIA’s Srinagar branch on Friday evening. Following the arrest, a Patiala House Court granted a three-day transit remand, after which he was taken to Jammu and Kashmir for further proceedings.

The development comes shortly after Shah was granted bail by the Supreme Court in an NIA case on March 12 and by the Patiala House Court in an Enforcement Directorate (ED) case on March 28, after spending nearly 39 years in custody and detention.
